The Steagall Mansion was the first mansion in Ozark, AL. built in 1900. It was later purchased by Dr. Malcom O. Grace who worked out of it as Grace Hospital, the first hospital in Ozark. The Steagall Mansion was then acquired by U. S. Representative Henry Steagall. Steagall served 28 years in Congress. He was co-author of the act that brought banking reforms and created the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. Steagall also co-authored the 1937 law that created the U.S. Housing Authority. Representative Steagall lived there for 10 years, before his death in 1943.
