This is the first of several sales featuring highlights from the extensive collection of the late George Starr, Professor of English at the University of California, Berkeley, with additions from other libraries. Starr was one of the world?s leading scholars and editors of Daniel Defoe, and beyond his academic interest in eighteenth-century British literature had wide-ranging bibliophilic collecting interests over his 60 year-long career at Berkeley. In addition to his individual collecting interests, he was a well-respected voice in guiding the development of the University Library of UC Berkeley.
