Appraisers-Estate Liquidations & Sales
Description & Details
This fabulous liquidation sale encompasses the personal property of GEORGE MARSHALL, one of Hollywood’s most respected film Directors whose credits, beginning in the silent film days, include THE GOLDWYN FOLLIES, YOU CAN’T CHEAT AN HONEST MAN, DESTRY RIDES AGAIN, POT O’ GOLD, THE BLUE DAHLIA, MY FRIEND IRMA, FANCY PANTS, HOUDINI, THE SAD SACK, and HOW THE WEST WAS WON.
In the 1930s, Mr. Marshall established a reputation for comedy, directing Laurel and Hardy in three classic films, and also working on a variety of comedies for Fox, though many of his films at Fox were destroyed in a vault fire in 1937. Later in his career he was particularly sought after for comedies. He did around half a dozen films each with Bob Hope and Jerry Lewis, and also worked with W. C. Fields, Jackie Gleason, and Will Rogers.
In addition to being a prolific Director (with well over 100 film credits), Mr. Marshall was also a very prolific antiques collector. Following his death in the 1970s, much of his personal property from his homes in Ojai and Beverly Hills was carefully packed away. Now, after over 50 years in storage, his family is reluctantly parting with these treasured personal items.
All items have been moved to a motion picture warehouse in El Segundo for liquidation. This is an active company and we ask that estate liquidation visitors not disturb operations.
Francophiles will be especially excited as 80% of the antiques originate from France and Belgium. Some of the many pieces we have slated for sale include:
