Savvy invites you to a downsizing sale this weekend at a classic Georgetown rowhome owned by a prominent local businesswoman and former staffer for the JFK and LBJ administrations.
Having resided in this home for nearly half a century, the owner has curated a collection that reflects a lifetime of public service, global travel, and an appreciation for the arts.
As a frequent traveler, she sourced treasures from Italy, Greece, Japan, Portugal, and London. Highlights include exquisite linens, dishes, and glassware, along with a stunning array of antique silver, ranging from 19th-century English sterling cups to a mid-century Cohr Denmark for Cartier sterling creamer and sugar set, to silver jewelry cases and repousse pieces, including a three-piece sterling silver vanity set.
As a collector of Chinese Export porcelain, you will find a notable number of platters, brush pots, bowls, plates, and decorative pieces throughout both levels of the home.
The home's walls feature a wide selection of art, including an original oil on board and a signed, numbered lithograph by Philip Campbell Curtis. In addition, you will find paintings by Elsie Manville and Paul Brigham, framed lithographs and posters, and a series of framed Matisse book plates. There is also a striking ceramic bowl by Otto and Gertrude Natzler.
Complementing the visual arts is a collection of books on politics, art, and JFK biographies—many of which are personally inscribed to her by the authors- and a collection of vintage children’s books. You will also find a selection of Presidential memorabilia.
The furniture is of timeless design and includes a Biedermeier two-drawer chest, an antique Sheraton drop-leaf table, and a George III inlaid Pembroke table. These are joined by custom upholstered sofas and a wide variety of side chairs that once hosted decades of fascinating conversations among journalists, diplomats, and foreign dignitaries.
Finally, the sale offers a glimpse into the homeowner's impeccable personal style. You will find classic, stylish clothes (mostly sizes 10 -12), a collection of vintage evening bags and lingerie, and an eclectic collection of hats.
