Description & Details
A Few of My Favorite Things
Sterling on crystal, old books bound in leather...these are a few of my favorite things. So we aren’t very original.
As the holidays approach, we are offering a few of our favorite things to brighten the gift-giving season. This sale brings together an eclectic mix across many collecting categories—fine art, Asian export porcelain, modern sculpture, and popular culture.
A highlight is a 1931 signed oil on canvas by Warren Frank Wheelock (American, 1880–1960), a wry and poignant reflection of the Great Depression that balances mood and humor with a deft painter’s hand.
For lovers of Asian art, do not miss a vibrant 15-inch Chinese export charger in the famille rose “Cabbage and Butterfly” pattern—a striking wall display alive with color and movement.
Glass connoisseurs will appreciate a silver-grey Lalique “Formose” vase, c. 1924, its swirling fish in high relief reading as sculpture from every angle. A classic of Art Deco design, it embodies the satin-versus-polish play that made Lalique’s press-molded glass so compelling to generations of collectors.
Sculpture collectors will find the geometric stone carving by Zimbabwean artist Denny Kanyemba (b. 1973), whose Shona works are celebrated for their poised mix of abstraction and expressive form.
And for those drawn to modern nostalgia, we offer an extensive Pokemon collection of more than 8,000 cards and accessories—a ready-made trove for dealers or dedicated collectors seeking fresh inventory.
Additional lots will be added through the close of preview, so check back often. With one of these favorite things in hand, the season—and perhaps the year—will feel just a little brighter.
