The Estate of Nina Carazo Snapp: A Celebration of Southern Grace and Timeless Style
There are some homes you walk into that tell you immediately who lived there — homes filled not just with things, but with stories, beauty, and a sense of life well lived. The Baton Rouge home of Nina Carazo Snapp is exactly that kind of place.
Nina, who passed away at 82, was a beloved member of her community — a woman of impeccable taste, gracious spirit, and lifelong curiosity. Her roots ran deep in Louisiana culture: her grandfather, Castro Carazo served as the band director at LSU and composed the legendary LSU Fight Song. That love of music, art, and heritage infused Nina’s life, and it shines through in the extraordinary collection she left behind.
Inside her home, elegance meets history. Her collection of fine glassware is truly breathtaking — shelves gleaming with uranium and canary glass, delicate amber coupe stems, and elegant wine glasses that catch the light like jewels. She adored color and craftsmanship, from the Murano glass made in Italy to the Waterford crystal decanters that grace the bar. Nina loved to entertain, and her passion for barware shows in the vivid mix of colorful glasses and decorative pieces that speak to a lifetime of gatherings, laughter, and shared stories.
Her furniture tells another chapter of her refined style. The Futura Haywood Wakefield vanity, chest, and corner cabinet are pristine examples of mid-century design, matched beautifully with another high-quality 1940s bedroom set. The Haywood Wakefield dining table and chairs and china cabinet look as if they’ve stepped out of a vintage design magazine — timeless, well cared for, and filled with character. Throughout the house are antique curios, wall art, international collectibles, and pieces that reflect both Nina’s travels and her Louisiana roots.
Step into her closets and you’ll find that Nina was, by all accounts, a “dresser.” Her wardrobe reflects a woman who knew her style — racks of women’s clothing in sizes small to large, all priced to move, featuring vintage jackets, coats, and pullovers that never go out of fashion. Her collection of costume jewelry, both vintage and name-brand, sparkles beside a lineup of chic purses and even a charming trove of vintage baby clothes that once belonged to family generations past. There is a large collection of LSU jackets, pull overs, and sweaters!
THEY WILL BE THE FIRST TO GO!
For book lovers, this estate is a treasure trove. Nina was an avid reader and collector of Louisiana history. Her shelves are filled with Louisiana and Baton Rouge books, many published by Louisiana State University Press. You’ll even find LSU Gumbos dating back to the 1930s, St. Joseph’s Academy keepsakes, and reminders of her years working at Earl K. Long Hospital — all offering glimpses into a life of learning and community involvement.
Her home also overflows with warmth and celebration, especially when it comes to the holidays. There’s an entire collection of Christmas décor, from vintage ornaments to large outdoor Christmas decorations that once brightened her yard each December.
And don’t overlook the garage — a treasure hunt of its own. There’s a huge “Stuff-a-Bag” sale area with over nine tables of items, a workshop full of tools, and an abundance of outdoor pots, decorations, and furniture. It’s a collector’s playground, the kind of space where you never know what gem you’ll uncover next.
This sale is more than an opportunity to shop; it’s a chance to step into the story of a woman who lived fully, loved deeply, and had an eye for the beautiful and unique. Nina adored estate sales herself, and relished the joy of discovery.
