Description & Details

This  once in a lifetime Breaux Bridge Louisiana estate sale is in the oldest building in St. Martin Parish.  The front part of the home was built in 1811 in preparation for the marriage of Sylvestre and Marie (Breaux) Broussard.  Marie was the daughter of the founder  (Firmin Breaux) of the little town Pont de Breaux (Breaux Bridge).and she was gifted the 1/2 acre tract on the banks of Bayou Teche. The Broussards raised five children in this cozy cottage.

The front part of the property is an 1811 Creole/Acadian Cottage that showcases 3 sets of French doors opening onto the historically restored gallery. This building is constructed with four inch hand hewn beams with mortise and tendon joints.  The  baton and bousillage walls with plaster finish and 12 foot exposed beam ceilings have been  lovingly restored to its original glory.

At the end of the 19th century with heavy travel on Bayou Teche an addition was added to the back of the house, just a short distance from the bayou.  The additional bedrooms and large dining room was rented out to travelers.  For over 150 years  this fine old home has provided rest and food for weary travelers .
