The Estate of Dr. John Wess and Alpha Spence who are very well known and loved in our area.  Dr. Spence practiced medicine for over 36 years as an anesthesiologist.  During his time as a physician, he was a pivotal force in forming the Northeast Louisiana Surgical Center and the Physicians & Surgeons Surgical Center.  One of his greatest achievements and contributions to our area was bringing outpatient surgery to Northeast Louisiana.  He would often dispense wisdom and life lessons of a rare quality to a rapt audience of friends and family wherever he was.  His generosity and reputation as a charitable man was well known throughout the community.  Dr. Spence and Ms. Alpha met in an operating room.  Ms. Alpha was a nurse who began her nursing rotations in Shreveport.  They began their marriage in 1956 starting their lives together and lived in Japan for 2 years.  Ms. Alpha built their incredible home on Bayou DeSiard, she was their only contractor.  Ms. Alpha worked with subcontractors to design a floorplan that worked for their family, that invited the nature they'd both come to love into the home.  There are windows in every room that open onto the couple's natural cove on the bayou.  Their home and backyard has been a sanctuary for family and countless visitors.
