Artistic Expression
What started out as a temporary pastime while looking for an academic position, pottery became a way of life for Emily Lees when she and her husband moved back to her native North Carolina. Like most potters, she started out using the wheel but found her artistic voice in slab-built vessels, some of which are proudly offered in this sale.
A lifelong interest in art led her to combine her love of clay with two-dimensional work, and encouraged by the late nationally-known potter and artist Mitch Lyons, she began to create monoprints on non woven fabric with liquid clay (Slip) and pigments. This sale contains several of her works as well as a inspiration piece by Mitch Lyons. She is also an avid collector of pottery, and this sale includes works by various masters of the craft.
