A partnership with a Cincinnati Zoo contact led him to Africa, where he sourced native artwork to sell in U.S. gift shops.

An avid outdoorsman, Dave was heavily involved with Presque Isle State Park. He served as a primary concessionaire, operating the marina gas dock, cross-country ski cabin, and founding the Yellow Bike rental service. He also ran the park’s Boat and Canoe Livery for over two decades. A dedicated fisherman in both fresh and salt water, Dave’s love for the outdoors extended to his military service—earning a feature on the cover of Army Times for safely relocating rattlesnakes from a training area in Texas.
