Description & Details

Konnie Saliba was professor emeritus of music at the University of Memphis in Memphis, TN, where she directed the Master of Music degree program with a concentration in Orff-Schulwerk. An accomplished pianist and accompanist, she received degrees from Illinois Wesleyan (BMuEd) and Southern Methodist University (MM-Piano Performance).

Konnie, together with Nancy Ferguson, started the Orff Schulwerk music program, (combining music, movement, drama and speech) in Memphis City Schools. From 1968 to 1974, Konnie served as both the Assistant Director of the Memphis Orff program and taught elementary music at Snowden School. In 1974, the University of Memphis Department of Music Education appointed Saliba full-time.  During her long tenure, the Memphis Orff Institute became one of the premier Orff teacher training centers in the United States.

She was past president and a lifetime member of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association, presenting courses and workshops throughout the United States and Canada and in Germany, Austria, Finland, China, and the Dominican Republic. She authored 26 books and wrote for many publications, including Pearson Scott Foresman's 2002 and 2005 Silver Burdett Making Music series. Konnie received the Distinguished Service Award from AOSA in 1997.
