An exceptional opportunity to acquire material from a large and remarkably diverse private collection assembled over many years. This is not a typical estate sale. The collection includes fine paintings, Western bronzes, European and American sculpture, Asian works of art, religious objects, photographs, works on paper, antique frames, decorative arts and numerous pieces carrying signatures, inscriptions, edition numbers, gallery labels, old collection tags and appraisal documentation.

The estate ranges from 19th-century academic and genre painting through European landscapes, American portraiture, modern art, Western sculpture, Asian devotional objects and 20th-century works on paper. Many pieces have been stored together for years and a substantial portion of the collection has never been fully researched or offered publicly.

Selected highlights include

A significant group of Earl W. Bascom Western bronzes, including large-scale cowboy and horse compositions and wildlife subjects. Several works retain clearly visible EARL W. BASCOM signatures or markings. The group includes dynamic rodeo and bucking-horse subjects as well as a large pair of bears, making this one of the strongest concentrations within the sale.

A striking numbered 1970 bronze by Varner, marked 1/50, depicting a kneeling female nude, together with other signed and limited-edition figural bronzes and sculptures.

A substantial modern bronze torso signed Tom Corbin, dated 1990 and numbered 3/6, presented on a stone base.

A bronze group signed M. Carbonell, dated 1989 and numbered from a small edition, depicting an intimate mother-and-child composition.

A monumental Asian figure of Guanyin/Avalokiteshvara, heavily modeled with elaborate robes and surface decoration, along with additional Asian bronzes, stone and hardstone figures, Buddhist images and devotional sculpture.

A large group of European and American paintings, including portraits, landscapes, maritime scenes, genre interiors, religious subjects and still lifes. Many retain antique or period-style gilt frames.

A pair of small oil paintings documented as works by Henri Hayden (1883–1970). The accompanying appraisal paperwork describes the pair as signed oils on panel measuring approximately 10 × 17 inches and records a historical valuation for the pair.

A work presented and labeled as Ernst Ludwig Kirchner’s “One-Handed Soldier on His Furlough,” 1915, accompanied by a title plaque. This piece should be independently authenticated before any firm attribution is made, but it is unquestionably one of the more intriguing research pieces in the estate.

Several early American and European portraits, including a handsome 19th-century gentleman in formal dress and another portrait carrying a reverse label attributing the sitter/work to William Collins, R.A. (1787–1847). These works warrant further research.

A group of early European-style genre paintings showing soldiers, tavern interiors and historical figures, including works with old handwritten labels and inscriptions.

A finely painted sporting still life of a hare and game bird, signed R. LaBarre Goodwin, in a decorative pierced frame.

A variety of traditional landscapes, including river scenes, village views, pastoral compositions and coastal subjects, many in substantial antique gilt frames.

An oil floral still life signed Walter Frank, 1908, depicting a vase overflowing with pink roses.

A 1935 coastal painting signed J. E. Small, titled on the frame plaque “In Drydock at Newport.”

A colorful modern painting signed Maurice Blanchard, along with a number of other mid-century and later modern works.

A group of limited-edition prints and works on paper, including figurative and decorative compositions, several signed and numbered.

A group of Alice in Wonderland-themed prints, including scenes of the Queen of Hearts, Alice, the White Rabbit and related characters, some signed and numbered.

A large colorful Tibetan Buddhist thangka, depicting a multi-armed central deity surrounded by attendant figures and Buddhist imagery.

A religious painting or devotional image of the Virgin and Child, presented in an elaborate antique frame, along with additional Christian religious works.

An unusual devotional or Old Master-style composition depicting Christ and a female figure, housed in an ornate gilt frame.

A collection of classical and neoclassical sculpture, including white marble or marble-like figures after ancient models, classical male and female nudes, allegorical figures and busts.

Asian hardstone and carved figures, including a pale stone standing female figure and additional Buddhist and East Asian devotional objects.

A primitive or archaeological-style seated figure with remnants of pigment, together with numerous ethnographic, Asian and antiquarian objects deserving individual study.

The collection also includes numerous antique and vintage frames, framed photographs, decorative porcelains, Asian ceramics, works with gallery labels, artist inscriptions and old handwritten provenance notes.

Why this sale is unusual

What separates this estate from a normal art sale is the breadth of material and the number of pieces that appear to have been purchased through galleries, auctions or private collecting channels over many decades. Several objects retain old appraisal sheets, gallery labels, handwritten identifications, edition numbers or collection documentation. In other cases, attribution and authorship remain open questions.

For collectors, dealers, decorators, historians and researchers, the sale offers everything from immediately recognizable signed works to fresh-to-market pieces that may reward further investigation.

Many items have not been cleaned, restored, authenticated or recently appraised. Buyers should examine all works carefully and rely on their own judgment regarding attribution, age and condition.
