Facebook Business Page Checklist

One of the many pieces of a business's marketing mix is a social media presence. That includes Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter business pages. Not every social channel will be right for your business. Still, it's important to ensure your business page on whichever channels you choose is fully functioning and has the appropriate information for consumers to learn about your business.

The first step in creating a social media presence is to create a business page for each social channel. The second step is to make sure your business page has the proper information. I've created a checklist for your Facebook business page to help you with this step.

Hint: I recommend going through this checklist on a desktop rather than a mobile device or tablet. It's easier to move around and the functions aren't hidden like they are on a mobile device.

1. Profile picture is your logo and is in a circle format

Your profile picture will be one of the first things a user sees when they search for your business page. It's incredibly important this picture is your company's logo and to shy away from using personal photos. It's equally important that the photo is in a circle format.

2. Cover photo that relates to your business

This is a professional page and should be treated as such. Your page should have a cover photo, and it should be something that relates to your business or the estate sale industry. If you'd like to create your own cover photo, Canva is a great too and is easy to use.

3. Complete the About tab

The About tab of your business page contains basic information about your company.

General

The General section in the About tab includes your business category, business name, and username. Your business category will most likely be a local service. You'll learn what a username is and how to create one later in the checklist.

Contact Info

Phone number:

This sounds simple, but it's frequently overlooked. Make sure your phone number is listed in the About tab of your page, that it is correct, and that it is in the proper format, i.e. (123) 456-7890

Email:

If you don't mind being contacted by email, be sure to provide the correct contact email. Ideally, the email should contain your business's name, i.e. bob@bobsestatesales.com. This is something you can create in a Gmail account.

Website:

If you have a website, add it to your contact info. Check periodically to ensure the link is working. Sites go down, and if you pay someone else to manage it, you may not know about it right away.

If you don't have a website, you can link your company page on EstateSales.NET instead. Be sure to enter all the proper information on that page as well.

About

There's an About section in the About tab of your business page. Confusing right? You'll see what I mean when you log in to your page, or you can refer to the picture I've provided.

Use the About section to describe your company and how it can help potential clients/customers. There is currently a character limit of 255 characters, so keep this short and sweet.

Company Overview

It was rumored in the summer of 2019 that the Company Overview section would be removed from the business page About tab. However, that section is still available and is an excellent opportunity to expand on what makes your company stand out. There is not a limit on characters at this time.

Story

Story is a newer section in the About tab of your business page that allows you to tell the entire story of your company. Many estate sale companies are small and family-owned. Take the opportunity to share your story with current and new followers to help give them insight into who you are as a company. You can also add a picture, and you should!

Bonus:

Create page username

You'll find this under your profile photo or in the General section in the About tab. Your username should match your handle on Twitter and/or Instagram if you have a company page on either of those social platforms. This creates a custom URL for your Facebook business page.

Add a call-to-action button

This is the big blue button just below your cover photo. Think about what action you'd like your page visitors to take and choose from Facebook's options to create that button.

Now it's time to start publishing content! There are more things you can add to your business page, but having the above information is a great place to start. Keep this checklist in your quarterly to-dos to ensure your business page information is always up-to-date and check out the Instagram checklist to make sure your page is insta-ready.
