Brian Bijan Monumental Brutalist bronze sculpture depicting birds in flight on marble base.

Brian Bijan (1936-2016) was an important American artist best known for his work in sculpture. He was a significant figure in the mid-century metal art movement and is even referred to by some as "The Father of Metal Sculpture". During the 1960s and 70s, his metal sculptures gained worldwide recognition, a period that is now known as the "Bijan Era". American Express referred to him as "The pioneer of metal sculpture" in their mid-20th-century sales brochures. Bijan's artwork, particularly his three-dimensional sculptures crafted from bronze, copper, and brass, is widely collected. His work encompasses a variety of subjects, including birds, trees and figurative representations.
