Description & Details

Merle was born and raised in poverty in rural Minnesota. His sports and intellect won him a full scholarship to Harvard in 1961 where he excelled in basketball and academics. Upon graduation in 1965, he was one of 32 in the USA awarded a Rhodes Scholarship and he attended Oxford University in England for 2 years. He returned to Harvard and after having earned a law degree in 1972, he spent his professional career "giving back" by promoting education for underserved populations.
