Description & Details

We are doing this sale on behalf of clients who are very much alive but experiencing inconveniences and problems of getting older.  For this couple, in their late eighties and early nineties, stairs have become a chore.  They have decided to move to from a 3-floor townhouse to single-floor apartment in a senior living community.  After the children have taken what they want, this still leaves a house full of furniture, kitchenware, eating ware, clothes, and yard/patio items.  As usually happens, downsizing means giving up the dining room furniture as well as guest bedroom furniture.

In this case, you will have the chance to purchase nice items including some antique furniture, good crystal, many clothes, artwork, rugs, books, CDs.  The husband is retired military while his wife in French.  They have lived in several places around the world and acquired items while living abroad.  You will have an opportunity to purchase a West Point Cadet jacket as well as other military jackets and clothing.  Women will have the opportunity to purchase from among many silk scarves, belts, shoes (sz 7-9), FINE clothes, jackets, coats.

We have set the dining table (which has "tucked under" leaves) for six people, added fine crystal goblets, white china, vintage French silverplate flatware.  A FINE spoon display cabinet shows off more spoons.  In the china cabinet you will discover some of the assorted pottery plus one FINE amber-tinted glass carafe, plus a small blue-on-white tea set.

A vintage square marble-top coffee table dominates the living room area, which is bordered by two sofas and a pair of French-style Louis XV "fauteuils" (open arm chairs).  You will find two nonmatching Capodimonte ceramic table lamps, a modern capice-shell round top side table with base simulating branches with leave, also a small round tripod table with brass gallery rail.  Note the artwork, which continues throughout the house.  You saw one of two antique wall clocks when you entered plus an oval mirror, also some of the framed prints of France, left by the owners.

The diminutive antique oak British writing table is in the second bedroom along with an EXCEEDINGLY FINE 6'x9' rug. Other small antique furniture you will find in the third bedroom along with a metal daybed.   A handwoven textile hangs over the railing on that floor.

There is one fireplace in the seating area of the kitchen, where we have put books, DVDs and CDs, plus some more of the ceramics.  The second fireplace is downstairs, where you will find a futon sofa and a futon chair.  We have moved many of the items that were in the china cabinet to two tables in this room, also added a third table to display small items.

The deck off the kitchen shows off a FINE outdoor table/chair set.  The oval patio table is very heavy.  We have washed the patio umbrella.  The six chairs display multicolor nylon.  The live plants on the deck are for sale.  On the lower deck, you will find a round patio table, a low rectangular glass-top table (ready to be stripped of the old paint), three hanging iron planter rings, watering cans, plus a shed of yard tools.

In the garage you will find sports equipment including a ten-speed man's bicycle, pair of snow skis with poles, 4 NEW blue nylon sleeping bags, and a fishing spear still in the box and a new croquet set in its box.  Three sets of hand weights we have put in the family room.  We have set up tables to display much of the hardware, hand tools, extension cords and outlet adapters, also a cabinet with mirrored door over drawer and a very heavy French-style cabinet.

There will be two of us working this sale.  Be advised that we do NOT move furniture, so you should plan on people capable of moving, in some cases dismantling first, furniture that you purchase.  The air conditioning is working fine in this house, so you can look forward to coolness while you shop except when you go outside.

We have decided not to do a sale on July 4th weekend, so our next two sales will be one weekend after and two weekends after July 4th.  The addresses for those sale are already announced.  We have also posted photos of the hug sale in Owings Mills.  We will publish details of the sale in Silver Spring in two weeks, along with photos.
