Items of Value, Inc
Description & Details
This is a sale that you will be talking about for many months. We have decided to do it as a 6-day sale spread over two consecutive weekends, running Friday-Sunday, 9am-4pm each day, of 17-19 October and 24-26 October. Nearly every item will have a price tag/sticker on it. The first day, items will be offered at full price. The second day, items will be offered at 10% of the original tagged price. This way, we will offer you buying opportunities on a progressively discounted schedule down to 50% off on the last day. So, you can purchase first what you want most and take your chances on other items surviving to the next day.
This will be an exceedingly unique opportunity for you to purchase Asian items that have been accumulated over the last half century and shipped to the U.S. Please take time to peruse our photographs of them. You will discover rosewood furniture of high quality. The most special one is the altar table cabinet upon which we have put a matched pair of celadon table lamps. Pottery abounds as well as baskets. Among the carpets is a mid-20th century (now antique) Afghan rug in traditional red and black. Not only will you discover flat woven rugs but also bags that were used to carry items. The very special item is the rectangular woven cradle, which has been turned upside down to cover a rectangular box beneath the HUGE flat screen TV in the living room. Behind the black leather sofa there, you will discover one of the largest selections of nautical items we have ever had.
In addition to ceramics and baskets, you will find flat wall art in the way of paintings and prints. Know that the piercecut material depicting animals, birds, people is not paper but leather. Imagine the skill it took to make such fine artwork. Like almost everything else that you will see on the three floors of this house, items are very well displayed. In particular, note the wood racks hung on the walls in the basement to display brass and copper ladles, all of which are for sale.
This is a very unique opportunity for you to buy FINE antique and vintage brass/copper pots the likes of which are not made anymore. Note especially the lidded pots/jugs with latches and handles. They are much heavier than the ones made more recently. In fact, many of the items you will discover were made at a time when materials and labor cost far less.
Also, we are proud to offer you a good selection of nautical items. The most important is the binnacle, made by Castle & Company, formerly of 26 English Street. See the various assorted nautical items in our photographs. Formal serving/eating at home seems to be on the decline. However, we have fine glassware and linens for you. They still make fine gifts for newlyweds or birthdays and holidays. A unique silverplate item is the trolley which consists of two round bowls on a wagon-like vehicle. This is also your chance to buy a silverplate bottle opener. The sewing machine is a Brother XR1300 computerized. The bicycles are Trek. If you buy them, you can enjoy peddling under the autumnal trees in a few weeks.
We have uncovered a few vintage/antique items that may interest you. Hanging on the wall above the checkout table is an antique tintype of a Civil War soldier (Union ?) in uniform. Look for the antique ceramic shaving mug with antique razor. Look hard and you may find the leather pouch with a round metal cufflink box secured in the middle of it. Would you recognize the antique repousse brass box that Princess Mary gave to British troops as a Christmas gift in 1914? We also have a real opium weighing balance for sale in its original wood box with carved elephants on the lid. Opium pipes are in the living room as well as downstairs. What I learned as a "crenelator" is a club with spherical end to beat someone's brains out. It is in the living room. Two Afghani or Turk knives in their original leather sheaths we have displayed in the FINE rosewood china cabinet. We also have a camphor wood trunk for sale which has a coffered lid inlaid with brass wire (called "stringing") foliate arabesque design.
In the 2-car garage we have set up folding tables in order to display items that were packed in cabinets and cupboards inside the house but never used. These are surrounded by yard equipment, a clean outdoor grill, two folding chairs, 2 bicycles, and above all a butcher block is surprisingly good condition. So, again, see this sale as a unique opportunity to purchase items you seldom see, vintage items of a quality not made anymore, and clean items never or seldom used. Vintage items include the Christmas decorations, Papasan chair, peacock chair, furniture with brass inlay made in Pakistan. The small antique table with octagonal white marble top flanked by two antique caned chairs are in front of the doors to the patio.
We advise you to arrange pickup of heavy pieces only by people capable of handling and moving them without damage. My workers do NOT move furniture. Once paid for, we will allow items to stay in the house until later pickup as long as this is pre-arranged through us. We apologize for the long lines you may find yourself in while waiting for admission. Bring beverages to drink to have while waiting outside. We will have a trash can available for you to dispose of beverage and food containers before entering the house. Look forward to a wonderful shopping experience the likes of which we have not had for a few years.
