Founded in 1857 by Melville Clark, Story & Clark is one of America's oldest surviving piano brands.  The brand has been owned by QRS Music Technologies of Seneca, Pennsylvania, since 1993.

In the 2000s, Story & Clark pianos were manufactured by the Dongbei Piano Group of Liaonin, China, using elements of the original American designs.  Dongbei established a reputation of producing high quality instruments for export to the United States under a number of brands, and were acquired by Baldwin in the late 2000s.  They are often considered to be the among the most well-built affordable pianos of their time.
