1978 John Deere 400

19.9HP Kohler 879cc, 2-Cylinder, gasoline, air-cooled, horizontal shaft, opposed twin. 1,485
hours showing on the hour meter (accuracy unknown). Sundstrand hydrostatic transmission,
two speed differential, power steering, three hydraulic circuits, split brakes, three-point hitch.
The PTO is belt driven. Includes 60” mid-mount mower deck, digital format John Deere shop
manual, shaft driven 46” snow thrower with hydraulic directional chute control. There is a Sears
8 hp, rear roto tiller that has been adapted to the tractor’s three-point hitch.
This machine is in fair cosmetic condition. The headlight lens and bulb sockets are missing. The
tractor has had the differential replaced, new head gaskets installed, new breather element, and
some work done on the power steering control valve. The engine and drivetrain work well. The
hydraulics need further work, especially the three-spool control valve.
